NEMS Malaga – Wind Generator Handling & Testing Upgrade

Project overview

In Western Australia, the wind energy industry is growing, but it lacks sufficient local capability to repair, overhaul, and test large wind turbine generators. As a result, major generator failures often require equipment to be transported interstate or overseas, increasing downtime, cost, and operational risk for wind farm operators.

The proposed solution is to establish a fully integrated, Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) aligned wind turbine generator repair, overhaul, and testing capability at National Electric Motor Services’ Malaga facility in Western Australia. The strategy focuses on enabling large wind generator work to be completed locally, safely and to global OEM standards.

The opportunity created by this project is the localisation of a critical service within the wind energy supply chain. By retaining repair work in Western Australia, the project improves supply chain resilience, reduces logistics complexity and supports the long-term operation of existing and future wind assets in the State.
